When the Magic Happens
Thank goodness I finally found my way to the good vibes felt in the improv jams hosted by Michelle Gilliam and MKE Improv. Should’ve happened sooner, but the new year finds me with a change in routine and structure in my calendar and headspace. So really, I think I made it at just the right time.
The MKE jams have such great energy and I’m just sitting here at home going from anxious and blah to feeling like my cup was just filled within 75 minutes.
And sometimes when you least expect it, there’s a moment of improv magic. The kind of callback silliness that occurs without any thought whatsoever. The kind where Susan is luring Michelle and I and one more improvisor with cookies that we’ll never get. In two separate jam situations where the zoom boxes decided to be all lined up the same. And I’m sitting there thinking here it is. That silly magic!
Sure we can’t have shows on stages and in person classes right now. And sometimes it’s hard to find that magic we’ve loved for so long. And it gets frustrating and difficult. And just when it feels like it’s all hopeless, something like this happens in a jam on zoom with players who might not have otherwise met.
So I’m thankful for this. For people like Michelle who are making it their life’s work to keep playing. And to keep us all connected.
Please support her and MKE Improv however you can. Come to a jam! You might find some magic of your own. (I’m pretty sure you will.)
